Simmons, John, a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Hancock County, Ga., Nov. 6, 1791. In his nineteenth year he united with the Church, and in 1815 was admitted into the South Carolina Conference. After four or five years he located, the better to provide for his family; but he, still continued to labor. He organized societies, and even erected a church at his own expense. In 1847 Mr. Simmons was readmitted into the Georgia Conference, and again entered upon the regular work of the ministry until compelled to take a superannuated relation.
