Lipovniczky, Stephan Von

Lipovniczky, Stephan Von a Roman Catholic prelate, who died August 12, 1885, bishop of Gross- Wardein, Hungary, took an active part in the political events of 1849. After the suppression of the Hungarian revolution he was condemned to death. Being pardoned by the emperor of Austria, Lipovniczky resumed clerical duties, and finally became the incumbent of one of the most important episcopal sees of Hungary. (B.P.)
