Confessor

(1) The name of a singer in the councils of Carthage and Toledo in 400, when anthems were forbidden to be sung by nuns and widows, except in the presence of a bishop. Confession of God's name (Ps 106:1) is synonymous with its praise.

(2) Saints not actually martyred, who by a good life have witnessed for Christ. Their names were first inserted in the diptychs in the 4th century.
