Bockel, Ernst Gustav Adolf

Bockel, Ernst Gustav Adolf, a Protestant theologian of Germany, was born at Dantzic, April 1, 1783. In 1805 he was tutor at the college in Konigsberg, and from 1808 to 1820 occupied several ministerial positions, when he was called as professor of theology and pastor of St. Jacobi to Greifswald. In 1826 he was appointed pastor primarius of St. Jacobi at Hamburg, and in 1833 he was called as pastor of St. Ansgar to Bremen, where he died, Jan. 5, 1854. Besides Sermons, which are enumerated in Zuchold's Bibl. Theol. i, 160 sq., he published, Nove Clavis in Grcecos Interpretes V. T. Scriptoresque Apocryphos Specimina (Leipsic, 1820).
