Ward

Ward (prop. מַשׁמָר or מַשׁמֶרֶת, φυλακή; occasionally סוּגִר [Eze 19:9], or פּקֻדָה [9:1, 11], custody ["oversight," etc.]), a prison (q.v.) or an apartment thereof (Ge 40:3; Ac 12:10); also a watch-post at the gates of the Temple (Ne 12:25; 1Ch 9:23). This term is likewise used to designate a class or detachment of priests or Levites (25:8; Ne 12:24; Ne 13:30).
