Vaniere, Jacques

Vaniere, Jacques a celebrated French Jesuit and modern Latin poet, was born at Causses, in the diocese of Beziers, Languedoc, March 9, 1664. He was educated at the Jesuits' college in Beziers, and joined the society in 1680. He was afterwards professor and rector of the Jesuit schools in Montpellier, Toulouse, and Auch. He died at Toulouse, Aug. 22, 1739. His chief works are, a volume of poetical Opuscula: — a Dictionary of Poetry, in Latin: — and a Latin poem entitled Prcedium Rusticumn.
