Strain, John

Strain, John, a Presbyterian minister, was graduated from the College of New Jersey (Princeton) in 1757. It is not known under whom he studied theology. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Newcastle, Pa., May 29,1759, and ordained sine titulo by the same presbytery in 1761. He settled as pastor of the churches of Chanceford and Slate Ridge, York Co., Pa. where he remained until his death, May 21, 1774. "He was a preacher of uncommon power and success."
