Spiess, Heinrich

Spiess, Heinrich a German painter, was born in Munich, May 10, 1832. He completed his studies under Kaulbach, assisting him in his cartoon of The Crusaders. In 1855 he was employed by Kaulbach in decorating the Wartburg, and was one of the school of artists known as "Young Munich," led by Faltz. He died at Munich, Aug. 8, 1875. Spiess painted Jacob Wrestling with the Angel (1875).
