Silentium Indiocre

Silentium Indiocre, an ancient form of speech used to bid the people fall to their private devotions. This signal was given by the deacon; but when the bishop gave the signal, he said Oremus (Let us pray). See Bingham, Christ. Antiq. bk. 15, ch. i, § 1.
