Sharp, Elias C

Sharp, Elias C., a Presbyterian minister, was born in Willington, Conn., March 18, 1814. He was left an orphan in early years, but by patient effort was able to attend Amherst College, where he graduated; studied divinity in the Western Reserve Theological Seminary, Hudson, O.; was licensed by Cleveland Presbytery Sept. 1, 1840; and ordained by Portage Presbytery, June 1, 1842, as pastor of the First Congregational Church of Atwater, Portage Co., O. This was his only charge. Here he labored for a quarter of a century, and died Jan. 5, 1867. Mr. Sharp possessed ability, both natural and acquired. As a minister he was eminently successful; and while pastor of his only charge, nearly two hundred connected themselves with the Church of God. See Wilson, Presb. Hist. Almanac, 1868, p. 226.
