Sanford, Miles, D.D.

a Baptist minister, a native of Connecticut, was for a time a Methodist, then became a Baptist, and was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois; subsequently an editor in Detroit, Michigan, from which place he removed to East Boston, Massachusetts, then to Gloucester, and at length to North Adams, whence he went as chaplain of a Western Massachusetts regiment to active service in the late war. Next he was for a short period financial secretary of the American Bible Union, and then became pastor of the First Church in Salem, N.J., where he remained about two years.
