Sacellanus, the Grand

Sacellanus, The Grand, an officer in the Greek Church, whose title denotes "headmaster of the chapel." He exercises inspection over monasteries and nunneries, presents all candidates for ordination to the patriarch or his deputy, and assists the patriarch in th'e performance of several of the ceremonies of the Church, and in the administration of his judicial functions.
