Rabe, Johann Jacob

Rabe, Johann Jacob a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born January 16, 1710, at Lindfluhr, near Wurzburg. He studied at Altdorf, was in 1741 deacon at Anspach, in 1764 archdeacon, in 1778 pastor and member of consistory, in 1790 general superintendent. Rabe died February 12, 1798. He is best known by his German translation of the Mishna (Anspach, 1760-63, 6 parts), and by his translation of the treatises Berachoth and Peah, according to the Jerusalem Talmud (1777, 1781).
