Omophagia

Omophagia (ὠμοφαγία,' eating raw flesh), a custom which was anciently followed at the celebration of the Dionysia (q.v.) in the island of Chios, the Bacchantes being obliged to eat the raw pieces of flesh of the victim which were distributed among them. From this act Dionysus also received the name of Omadius (q.v.).
