Nizami, Kendshewi

Nizami, Kendshewi a Persian poet, who flourished about the middle of the 12th century, is noted as the author of a poem in praise of God, inserted in Kosegarten's Triga Carminum Orientalium, with notes. One of Nizami's principal poems furnished the subject of Gozzi's drama of Turandot, which was subsequently imitated by the German poet Schiller. Nizami died in 1189.
