Natigay a household god of the Mongolian Tartars, is the guardian of families, and presides over the products of the earth. Every house has an image of Natigay, with his wife and children; the former is placed at his left, and the latter in front of him. No one presumes to eat at dinner till Natigay and his family are first served. The entertainment consists in giving the mouths of the images a thorough greasing, after which the fragments are thrown out of doors, for the accommodation of some unknown spirits.
