Merbes, Bon De

Merbes, Bon De a French theologian, was born in 1616-at Montdidier. He entered the congregation of the Oratory, and rose to much distinction. The doctorate of theology was conferred upon him. He died Aug. 2, 1684. His Latin works are excellent. Especial notice is due to his Summa Christiana seu Orthodoxa morum disciplina ex Sacris Litteris, sanctorum patrum monumentis, conciliorun oraculis, summorum denique pontificum' decretis fideliter excenpta, etc. See Du Pin, Bibliotheque du dix-septieme siicle, 4:271.
