Kogler, Ignaz, a Jesuit German missionary to China, was born at Landsberg, Bavaria, in 1680, entered the order of Jesuits in 1696, prepared for missionary work in 1715, and departed the year following for China, where he enjoyed the favor of the emperor in a remarkable degree. Kogler was master of the sciences, and especially in astronomy displayed superior acquisition. He died in Pekin in 1746.-Hoefer, Nouv. Biogr. Generale, 27:959.
