Jacob, Rabbi

Jacob, Rabbi is the name of a Jewish teacher who lived in the latter part of the 2d century of our mera. We have a recorded maxim of his in the treatise Pirke Aboth: "This world is like a vestibule before the world to come; prepare thyself at the. vestibule, that thou mayest be admitted into the hall. Better is one hour of repentance and good works in this world than all the life of the world to come; better is one hour of refreshment of spirit in the world to come than all the life of this world" (chapter 4:23, 24).
