Ir

Ir (Heb. id. עַיר. a city; Sept. ῎Ωρ v.r. ᾿Ωρά, Vulg. Hir), the father of Shuppim (Shupham) and Huppim (Hupham), of the tribe of Benjamin (1Ch 7:12); probably identical with one of the sons of Benjamin (Ge 46:21), and therefore not (as often supposed) the same with Iri (1Ch 7:7). SEE BENJAMIN; also comp. SEE IR-NAHASH, SEE IR-SHEMIESH, etc.
