Holyman, John an English prelate of the 16th century, was born at Codington, Buckinghamshire, educated at New College, Oxford, became a Benedictine at Reading until that monastery was dissolved, and was preferred by queen Mary bishop of Bristol in 1554. Holyman lived peaceably, not imbruing his hands in the blood of Protestants. He died December 20, 1558. See Fuller, Worthies of England (ed. Nuttall), 1:97.
