Gordon, Robert

Gordon, Robert D.D., a Scotch divine, was born in Dumfries. "His first settlement in the ministry was at Kinsfaun's, 1816; in 1820 he was translated to the old Chapel of Ease, Edinburgh. In 1825 he became one of the ministers of the High Church. In 1843 he joined the 'Free-Church movement' and resigned his preferment. Most of his people went with him, and formed the 'Free High Church,' of which he remained minister to the times of his death, October, 1853. He published Sermons (3d ed. Edinburgh, 1826, 8vo): — Christians made known to the Ancient Church: An exposition of the revelation of Divine Grace, as unfolded in the O.T.
