Franzoni, Luigi

Franzoni, Luigi an Italian prelate, was born at Genoa, March 29, 1789; studied under the direction of Zanobi Benucci; was ordained priest in 1814; became first an urban missionary, bishop of Turin in 1831, and died March 26, 1862. He was an avowed champion of Ultramontanism, for which he was imprisoned in 1850, and took refuge in Lyons. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
