Ewe

Ewe stands in the Auth. Vers. as the representative of the following Hebrews words: רָחֵל (rachel', fem.), a "ewe" (Ge 31:38; Ge 32:14) or "sheep" generally (Song 6:6; Isa 53:7); שֶׂה (sek, masc. Ex 12:5; fem. Jer 1; Jer 17; Eze 34:20), a sheep or goat from a flock generally, variously rendered ("cattle," "sheep," "goat," "ewe"); כִּבשָׂה (kibsah') or כִּבשָׂה (kabsah', fem., so called from being fit for coupling), a "ewe-lamb," i.e., from one to three years old (Ge 21:28-30; Le 14:10; Nu 6:14; 2Sa 12:3-4,6); עָלוֹת (aloth', milk-giving fem. plur.), milch ("[ewes] with young," Ps 78:71; Isa 40:11).
