Eli (2)

E'li (ἠλί, for Hebrews אֵלַי [Ps 22:2], eli', my God, as it is immediately rendered), an exclamation used by our Savior on the cross, in appeal to his heavenly Father (Mt 27:46). SEE AGONY. In the parallel passage (Mr 15:34) it is written Ε᾿λωϊv, ELOI SEE ELOI (q.v.).
