Ducks, in early Christian art These birds occur repeatedly in the bass-reliefs of the Duomo at Ravenua, on the great pier t he the east end, and at the same place in the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista. The reason for their use is unknown, but has been supposed to be either on account of the bright colors or because domesticated in the monasteries.
