Dandini Girolamo

Dandini Girolamo, a Roman theologian and papal legate, was born at Cesena in 1554. After being professor of philosophy at the University of Paris, and professor of theology at the University of Padua, he entered the order of Jesuits, and became its provincial in Poland and at Milan. In 1596 he was sent by Clement XI as nuncio to the Maronites in order to effect their union with the Church of Rome, but in this mission he was not successful. He died at Forli Nov. 29, 1634. He is the author of a work on Ethica Sacra (Cesena, 1651; Antw. 1676, fol.). He also published a report on his mission to the Maronites (Missione Apostolica al Patriarcha e Maroniti del Monte Libano (Cesena, 1656; Paris, 1675; English, 1698). According to the French translator, Richard Simon, Dandini gave an incorrect account of the creed of the Maronites. Pierer, Univers. Lex. 4:686; Hoefer, Biog. Gen. 12:910.
