Dale, Thomas

Dale, Thomas an English divine and poet, was born in London in 1797. He was educated at Cambridge, ordained in 1823, and after several successive appointments as curate and lecturer, was professor of English literature in London University from 1828 to 1830. In 1835 he became vicar of St. Bride, Fleet Street; in 1836 professor of English literature in King's College, London; resigned in 1839; in 1843 was made canon of St. Paul's; and in 1870 dean of Rochester. He died May 14 of the same year, leaving several volumes of Sermons: and Poems.
