Cowles, Giles Hooker, Dd

Cowles, Giles Hooker, D.D., a Congregational minister, was born in Farmington, Conn., Aug. 26, 1766. He graduated at Yale in 1789, entered the ministry in May, 1791, and was installed pastor of the First Church at Bristol in 1792. He was appointed in 1810, by the Conn. Miss. Soc., to travel through the Northern. part of Ohio. He accepted the position of pastor over the churches of Austinburgh and Morgan, Ohio, and was installed in 1811. He died in the former placeJuly 6, 1835. He was made D.D. by Williams College, 1823. — Sprague, Annals, 2:330.
