Coupar, William

Coupar, William a Scotch prelate, was born in 1566 at Edinburgh, and took the degree of master of arts at St. Andrews in 1582. He was licensed to preach in 1586, and entered into the ministry at Bothkennar, Stirling, in the same year. In 1592 he was removed to the town of Perth. He was promoted to the see of Galloway July 31, 1614, where he remained until his death, February 15, 1619. See Keith, Scottish Bishops, page 280.
