Cope

Cope (Lat. capa, Fr. chape), a sort of cloak, forming part of the sacerdotal vestments in the Roman Church. It was formerly worn by the clergy of the Church of England during divine service, but has fallen into disuse, except on such occasions as a coronation. It reaches from the neck nearly to the feet, and is open in front, except at the top, where it is fastened by a band or clasp. The canons of the Church of England describe it as a part of clerical dress. See Du Cange, s.v. Capa.
