Conforte, David

Conforte, David a Jewish rabbi, was born at Salonica in 1619. In 1644 he went to Palestine, and died there in 1671. He is the author of a chronological work, entitled קוֹרֵא הִדּוֹרוֹת, which treats of the Jewish literati in Turkey, Africa, Italy, etc. (Venice, 1746). It has been edited; with a corrected text, valuable notes, and indices, by David Cassel (Berlin, 1846). See Fiirst, Bibl. Jud. 1:186; De' Rossi, Dizionario Storico (Germ. transl.), page 86, but more especially Cassel's introduction to his edition of the work. (B.P.)
