Cloud (Clodoaldus), Saint

Cloud (Clodoaldus), Saint, a Frankish presbyter, was the youngest son of Clodomir, king of Orleans, and grandson of St. Ctotilda. He was born A.D. 522. and in 524 his father was killed in Burgundy. The two elder brothers of Clodoaldus were killed by their uncles, kings Childebert and Clotaire, but Clodoaldus escaped by the help of some powerful nobles. Consecrating himself to God, he renounced the throne of Orleans. In 551, yielding to a popular demand, Eusebius, bishop of Paris, ordained him a priest. Clodoaldus settled at Nogent (Novigentum), where he died, Sept. 7, 560. His festival is on Sept. 7. See Patrol. Lat. cxxxix 675; Le Cointe, Annales Eccles. Franc. (Paris, 1{;1;5.) 1:327, 348, 370.
