Chater, John (2)

Chater, John (2), an English Congregational minister, was born at Coventry, Feb. 16,1805. He was carefully trained by his parents, and when about twenty-one joined the Church, engaged in village preaching and soon after entered Hackney College. At the close of his college course he accepted a call to Lundfield, Sussex, where he labored until 1842, then removed to Newton Abbott. and there remained till 1864. Ill-health then obliging his resignation, he retired to Southport, an-d there died, Jan. 12,1869. See (Lond.) Cong. Yearbook, 1870, p. 281.
