Challis, James M.

a Baptist minister, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Jan. 4,1779. He united with the Church in Salem, N.J., which gave him a license to preach. After studying for a short time with Rev. Dr. Holcombe of Philadelphia, he was ordained in 1822 pastor of the Church at Upper Freehold, N.J., and remained there till 1830, when he went to Lower Dublin, Pa. Of this Church he was pastor till 1840, and then he returned to New Jersey. He was pastor of the Church in Cohansey till 1850, when he resigned and removed to Bridgeton. He died there in April, 1868.
