Catalani, Michele an Italian archaeologist and biographer, was born at Fermo, Ancona, Sept. 27, 1750. At the age of sixteen he entered the Society of Jesus, arid on the suppression of that society obtained a canonicate in his native town, and devoted himself to the study of ancient history. He collected a large number of documents of great value; but his principal writings relate to his native place. He died at Bologna early in the 19th century. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Générale, s.v.
