Campbell, Joseph, D.D., a Presbyterian minister, was born at Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1776. He came with his parents to America in 1797, and, having enjoyed excellent advantages for a common education previous to leaving Ireland, he engaged, shortly after arriving here, in teaching, at the same time prosecuting his theological studies. Here he continued laboring with great acceptance and success for nearly thirty years. He died Sept. 6,1840. A volume of his Sermons was published by Dr. Gray, with a Memoir pre. fixed. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, iv, 429.
