Cally, Pierre

Cally, Pierre a French theologian, a native of Mesnil-Hubert, near Argentan, in the diocese of Seez. Having pursued his studies at Caen, he there became professor of eloquence and philosophy in 1660, and principal of the College of Arts in 1675. In 1684. he was made curate of the parish of St.

Martin. He first taught the Cartesian philosophy in France. From 1686 to 1688 he was an exile at Moulins. He labored zealously for the conversion of the Protestants. He died Dec. 31, 1709. He wrote, Doctrine Heretiquue et Schismatique touchant la Primauti du Pape Enseignee par les Jesuites dans leur Collge de Caen (1644): — Universce Philosophice Institutio (Caen, 1695): — Discours en forme d'Homilies sur les Mysteres, sur les Miracles, et sur les Paroles de Notre-Seigneur Jesus Christ qui son dans l'Evangile (ibid. 1703).
