Buxton, Jarvis Barry

Buxton, Jarvis Barry a Protestant Episcopal minister, was born at Newbern, N. C., Jan. 17, 1792. Though educated in the Episcopal Church, he was for some time strongly inclined to Methodism, but a change in his associations recalled him to his own Church. He was ordained in 1827 at Elizabeth City, where he continued till 1831, when he removed to Fayetteville, the scene of his after labors. He was a zealous preacher and revivalist. He died on the 30th of May, 1851. His works, containing Discourses, were published by his son, with a brief Memoir (1853, 8vo). — Sprague, Annals, v. 679.
