Burgon, John William, D.D.

a clergyman of the Church of England, was born at Smyrna, in Asia Minor, August 21, 1813. He graduated from Worcester College, Oxford, in 1845. In 1846 he became fellow of Oriel College, and Gresham lecturer in divinity in 1868. He was made vicar of St. Mary the Virgin. Oxford, in 1863,, and dean of Chichester in 1876 . He died August 4, 1889.
