Brompton, John

Brompton, John was an English Cistercian monk, and abbot of Jorvaulx (or Jorevall), in Richmondshire. He appears to have flourished about 1198, if, indeed, he was the author of the Chronicon which is extant under his name, extending from 588 to 1198. Selden thinks it probable that he was not. The Chronicle is printed by Sir Roger Twysden, in the Historiae Aglicanae Scriptores Decem (London, 1652, page 725 fol.).
