Bland, John

Bland, John an English martyr, was a minister at Rolvenden; much of his time was devoted to the instructing of children in the Bible. He was cast into Canterbury prison for preaching the Gospel. He was examined, and a great number of articles were drawn up by the bishop, which, if Bland would sign, would set him free; but he refused, and lay in prison many months before his burning, which took place June 25, 1555. See Fox, Acts and Monuments, 7:287.
