Blackhurst, John

Blackhurst, John a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born in Sheffield, England, in 1818. He joined the Wesleyan Methodists in his youth; received license to preach at the age of twenty-two, and as such was remarkably popular wherever he went. In 1847 he emigrated to America, and located at Dover, Wis. In 1856 he was received into the West Wisconsin Conference, in which he did efficient work until his decease, Oct. 6, 1859. Mr. Blackhurst was ardent in his attachments, a giant in intellect, and a clear, logical reasoner. See Minutes of Annual Conferences, 1859, p. 326.
