Beecher, John Sydney

Beecher, John Sydney a Baptist minister, was born at Hinesburg, Vt., in 1820. Having completed his literary and theological education, he received an appointment as missionary to Burmah. In 1846 he commenced his labors in Arracan, where he remained for ten years. He then dissolved his connection with the Missionary Union. He subsequently came under the auspices of the Free Mission Society, and occupied himself in the work of preparing young men for the Christian ministry. On account of failing health, he left the field of his labor with the intention of returning to the United States, but died in England, Oct. 22, 1866. See Appletons' Annual Cyclop. 6:579. (J. C. S.)
