Bassett, Christopher

Bassett, Christopher an English divine, was born in 1753, at Aberdare, Glamorganshire, Wales. He was educated at a noted school in Cowbridge, and Jesus College, Oxford; ordained by the bishop of London, and became the curate of St. Anne's, Blackfriars. Here he remained several years, but his health failing he was compelled to return to his native country, where he became pastor of St. Fagan's, Cardiff. From St. Fagan's, where he labored faithfully some years, he removed to the home of his parents; but shortly afterwards took charge of Porthcery church, near his father's house. This was a short time before the end of his life. He was seized with consumption, and died at the age of thirty-one. Mr. Bassett was wholly devoted to the service of God. Wherever he went he won seals to his ministry. See Church of Eng. Magazine, Oct. 1847, p. 269.
