Bartholomew of Foigni

Bartholomew Of Foigni (de Fusniatco), bishop of Laon, was suspended about the year 1142 by cardinal Ivo, the legate of pope Innocent II, for having confirmed an unlawful divorce between Raoul, count of Vermandois, and his wife. After this he left his bishopric and became a monk of Citeaux. He wrote Epistola Apolgqetica ad Synodum Rhemenseml, which is still extant, and is given in Labbe, 10:1184. See Cave, Hist. Lit. ii, 220; Dupin, Hist. of Eccles. Writers, ii, 367.
