Bacheller, Gilman

Bacheller, Gilman a Congregational minister, was born at Fayette, Me., Feb. 18, 1795. His early years were spent on the farm and in trade with only a common-school education. Rev. Joseph Underwood of New Sharon, Me., became his theological tutor in 1827, and in 183:1 Mr. Bacheller became pastor at Machiasport, Me. He was dismissed in 1849, but continued to reside at that place and to officiate as acting pastor a part of the time until a few weeks before his death. As acting pastor he supplied Jonesborough from 1847 to 1849; Northfield from 1850 to 1853; Whitneyville from 1850 to 1855, and from 1859 to 1861, and again in 1865; also supplied Whiting from 1851 to 1852. He died at Machiasport, Sept. 27,1875. See Cong. Quarterly, 1876, p. 419.
