Ananelus

Ananelus (Α᾿νάνηλος, i. q. Hlaananel), a descendant of one of the sacerdotal families still resident in Babylonia, appointed by Herod high-priest (B.C. 37) on his own elevation to royalty (Josephus, Ant. 15:3, 1), but removed — to make room for the youth Aristobulus (ib. 2, 7), upon whose murder he was replaced (ib. 3, 3), B.C. cir. 34.
