Anadyomene

Anadyomene an epithet of Venus, meaning emerging out of the waters. Under this title those worshipped her who had escaped drowning. The most celebrated picture of antiquity was that of this goddess by Apelles, for which his favorite mistress, Campaspe, was given him so generously by Alexander.
