Anacampteria

Anacampteria (from ἀνακάμπτω, to unbend), small buildings which were erected adjacent to ancient Christian churches, designed to serve as little hospitals or inns, where poor persons and travellers might relax themselves on their journey. They are supposed, also, to have served as lodgings for such as fled to take sanctuary in the church.
